Pewsey Vale produce the Prima Riesling from grapes picked three to four weeks before the rest of the vineyard. These early harvested grapes are carefully selected for their fine citrus flavours with the result being a "semi-dry" style more reminiscent of Germany than Eden Valley.
"95 Points. The glass closure is striking, but the contents even more so; made in a distinctly Germanic style, picked young to enhance natural acidity, and with residual sugar left to balance the wine's assertive acidity; green apple fruit with a lemony edge is refreshing, long, even and absolutely poised, exhibiting the winemaker's rare talent for this variety. Vino-Lok. 9.5% alc. Drink 2025" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
"If I could drink one wine for the rest of the summer, the '09 Pewsey Vale Prima Riesling would be it. With a little residual sweetness, it's pure, driven acidity mops up any cloying characters instantly. I can't wait until the next time Thai is on the menu. I already know what I'll be drinking. Go on, it's time to embrace your inner sweet tooth." - Fergus McGhie, Canberra Times, 3 February 2010.
"The Pewsey Vale vineyard has long been a source of some of Australia's best riesling. Picked early to capture freshness, this semi-sweet riesling is delicate and ultra-refined, with intense sweet lime juice, spice and flowery aromas. In the mouth, it's lively and lip-smacking, with fruit sweetness balanced by acidity." - Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, Epicure, 27 April 2010.
