Port Phillip Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Port Phillip Estate Sauvignon 2013

Port Phillip Estate Sauvignon 2013

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13%
Port Phillip Estate is regarded as one of Victoria's leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes for this 2013 Port Phillip Estate Sauvignon were whole bunch pressed and fermented without yeast inoculation in stainless steel. The wine is left on lees for six months prior to bottling, the result is a white wine with a level of complexity rarely associated with this variety.

The nose displays subtle tropical fruit aromas, white peach and melon with lovely floral notes of honeysuckle and rose petals, yet maintains varietal herbaceousness. The palate is elegant and textural, with good palate weight adding interest and characterised by apricot and kumquat flavours with hints of grapefruit on the finish.

"94 Points. From a 0.62ha estate block, whole bunch pressed, wild yeast-fermented, and left on lees for 6 months, building texture and structure akin to used oak fermentation. Green-gold colour, the mouth filled with toasty/buttery overtones to the fully ripe fruit. It should be obligatory for the wine to be served with rich seafood or white meat dishes." - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2015 Edition.

Port Phillip Estate was established in 1987 on a property of sixty acres in Red Hill in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. The maritime climate and southerly latitude of the Mornington Peninsula combined with the estate's deep red loam soils are considered ideal for cool climate viticulture. Port Phillip Estate is regarded as one of Victoria's leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc, and the newly 2011 vintage is one of their finest.
Mornington Peninsula
The Port Phillip Estate vineyard is located on the Mornington Peninsula at Red Hill, on Eocene volcanic soils. Our wines are made from domain grown, handpicked grapes and aim to manifest terroir: the integration of our geology and soils with the macroclimate of our region, the mesoclimates of the various sites within our vineyard and the weather of the annual grape growing season. Our cultural operations in the vineyard and practices in the winery endeavour to articulate these unique characteristics diligently, respectfully and without artifice.

Bright pale straw colour. A nose of apple blossom, lemon citrus, crushed nettle and fresh grass lead into a palate with bright, crunchy granny smith apple flavours, grassy mouth aromas, medium weight and an underpinning mineral line. Approachable, fresh and cheerful. - Port Phillip Estate.
