One of the pioneers of Margaret River wine, Dr Mike Peterkin is the visionary behind Pierro. Peterkin is considered one of the regions finest winemakers, whilst almost being considered an innovator.
In the words of Jeremy Oliver;
“Pierro is one of the few Australian wineries that could claim to have established a trend that many others have followed. Since the mid-1980s Mike Peterkin has crafted a Chardonnay of not only monumental power, but of simultaneously smooth and silky delivery.
“Pierro Chardonnay is the role model for so many of Australia’s more opulent and hedonistically proportioned chardonnays and is a stunning expression of Margaret River Chardonnay.”
"Now and again, you taste a vintage of a wine you think you know well, but you are pleasantly surprised. You think, 'This is stunning. I haven't seen a wine like this before.' That sums up the 2011 Pierro Chardonnay - undoubtedly our best yet. Perhaps it has greater depth of flavour and better harmony between its component parts, but it is truly a cut above. The wine is primal with pure white tropical flavours at its core. There is, however, so much more. The mouthfeel is enticing: unctuous, viscous and creamy before its tight structure leads to a refreshing, cleansing, zesty finish. There are delicate nutty characters and schisty minerally notes that give complexity and a savoury flavour profile. Expect finesse, focus, power, balance and harmony, before a delicious tangy dryness that lingers. Our quest continues to perfect this wonderful white, and a quarter century later we are very happy with its progress." - Pierro Wines.
