Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache 2011

Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache 2011

McLaren Vale, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14%
Paxton of the McLaren Vale is one of Australia's leading biodynamic wineries, managing all their vineyards without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides in order to promote healthy, living soils. While there is a level of scepticism regarding some biodynamics practices, the high quality of the Paxton wine speaks volumes of the meticulous care taken in making them.

Paxton's 'AAA' is always one of our most popular wines each year and the 2011 vintage is again in fine form. A sensational blend of Shiraz and Grenache, packed with flavours of soft juicy cherries, chocolate and a savoury texture that makes it a real crowd pleaser.

"Deep garnet; a decidedly savoury affair of bramble, Provencale garrigue and ripe red fruits; the palate is juicy on entry, tightening up with pronounced tannins and warmth on the finish. Screwcap. 14% alc. Rating 90. To 2016." - Ben Edwards, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition.

"Paxton’s blend comprises 62 per cent shiraz and 38 per cent grenache from the family’s biodynamic certified vineyards in McLaren Vale. The maker fermented five shiraz components and three grenache components separately, using both closed and open fermenters. The different techniques resulted in a wine with both bright fruit more mellow winey character - a tasty combination in a red designed for early consumption. It’s a medium bodied dry red, combining the rich earthiness of shiraz and fragrant, spicy lift of grenache. The cool vintage means a less fleshy, tauter style than usual, but delicious nevertheless."- Chris Shanahan, chrisshanahan.com.

"AAA is a vibrant blend of approximately 62% Shiraz and 38% Grenache from some special little pockets amongst our vineyards. The Shiraz was selected from the ‘Gateway' and ‘Jones Block’ vineyards, renowned for producing some of the best fruit in the region. These select parcels were blended with complimentary Grenache to create a wine that is engaging to a wide range of drinkers. Our blend is fun, appealing and, unlike some members of Paxton, not over the top."- Paxton Wines.
