Mr Mick Clare Valley Riesling

Mr Mick Riesling 2012

Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    10.5%
New vintage of Mr Mick Riesling coming soon. Mr Mick' is a new range of wines launched by Tim Adams; one of Australia's most talented winemakers. The range is named in honour of K.H Knappstein; a legend of Australian wine and a former mentor of Tim Adams.

In the late 1960’s, under Mr Mick’s guidance, Leasingham began production of Bin 5 Riesling. The wine was rich in the mid palate, with lowish levels of residual sugar, and notably less acidity than its partner in the riesling stakes, Bin 7. Today, Mr Mick Riesling revives the intent of the Bin 5, a Riesling for all people, all occasions, and a broad array of cuisine.

Reviews of the 2011 Mr Mick Riesling included below;

"Pale straw-green; the best of the Mr Mick releases, honouring the late Mick Knsppstein, doyen of Clare winemakers; crisp lemon/ lime flavours have a strong acid backbone, the palate ending firm and dry. Screwcap. 10.5% alc. Rating: 93. To 2018" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013 Edition.

“Tim Adams started his apprenticeship at age 17 with “Mr Mick” Knappstein at Leasingham winery in 1975. Now he owns that same Clare Valley winery and has commemorated his late mentor with the Mr Mick range. Floral, lime and steely aromas provide a classical nose to this riesling and it tastes light, fresh and ripe with super-appetising zip.” Ageing? Drink over three years"- Ralph Kyte-Powell, Epicure, The Age, Melbourne, September 20, 2011.

"Mick Knappstein was the Clare Valley's shining light - steering his family company, Leasinghan, and the region into the modern (table wine) age. One of Mor Mick's (as he was known) last apprentices was Tim Adams - who first worked at Leasingham in 1975. The Adams family have now "bought back the farm". The 2011 Mr Mick Riesling echoes the style of the original Leasingham Bin 5 Riesling. It's a streamlined wine, boasting lots of lemon, lime and exotic spice flavours with a lively acidity to carry the finish." - Peter Bourne, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Gourmet Traveller Wine, April/ May 2012.

"Purposely soft, rich and crowd-pleasing with low acidity and a little residual sweetness, without sacrificing freshness or lemon blossom perfume."- Tyson Stelzer, Wine Business Monthly, September, 2011.

"pH: 3.18 Acidity: 6.93g/L Alcohol: 10.5% Residual sugar: 9 g/L (off dry). This wine has lemon and lime aromas and flavours, made in the classic Australian dry style with lively acidity and a touch of fruit sweetness. It is a pristine wine with generous length of flavour. This wine is made from Riesling grapes harvested at their peak flavour maturity from the vineyard we know as “Rogers”. The vines were planted in 1980. The juice was separated from skins then cold filtered and fermented. Its great just to sit and sip, or try it with any South Aussie seafood!" - Tim Adams Wines.
