Koonowla The Ringmaster Riesling 2012
Koonowla is one of the Clare Valley’s largest and most historic vineyard properties. The property, just east of Auburn in the Clare Valley of South Australia, was first planted with vines in the 1890's and by the early 1900’s was producing over 60,000 litres of wine. Koonowla has remained one of the districts most iconic properties with its beautiful historic stone building and rolling broad acre hills where significant replanting of vines commenced in 1985 and has now expanded to 250 acres.
The vineyard, comprising of large blocks of carefully selected terroir planted predominately with Clare Valleys dynamic varietals of Cabernet, Shiraz and Riesling by the estates principal, Andrew Michael, is today one of the most pre-eminent examples of high quality and productive viticulture and agriculture with an unrelenting focus of biodynamic practices.
The Koonowla winemakers, David O’Leary and Nick Walker share with Koonowla the success of accolades and trophies as testament to their understanding of the importance of first class climate, soil profile, viticulture and winemaking in order to deliver the most outstanding results.

"We picked the fruit for this wine on February the 19th to maximize the varietal vineyard characters as the Temperature dipped below 14 degrees celsius then delivered to the winery within 2 hours of being picked. The fruit was then crushed and de-stemmed and the must chilled to 2 degrees Celsius and then pressed in a tank press.
The skins were gently pressed and the pressings discarded, the free run juice was then cold settled before racking and seeding with an aromatic yeast. Primary fermentation was conducted between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius for 3 weeks before the wine was chilled at close to sugar dryness. Bentonite was added to stabilize protein and clear the wine in tank and we then pad filtered and bottled on the 20th of June 2011.
Alcohol Content: 11.5% Yields per acre: 4 tonnes Cases produced: 2000 Appellation: Clare Valley Filtration and fining: Pad filtered at bottling Varietal composition: 100% Riesling" - Koonowla Wines.
