Port Phillip Estate 'Salasso' Rosé 2011

Port Phillip Estate Salasso Rose

Port Phillip Estate Salasso Rosé 2011

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13%
In recent years Port Phillip Estate 'Salasso' Rosé has established itself as one of Australia's leading examples of Rosé. This wine is made from fruit from 15 year old Shiraz vines by master winemaker Sandro Mosele. 'Salasso' is Italian for “bleeding the juice” and can be translated to mean Rosé

The newly released 2011 Port Phillip Estate 'Salasso' Rosé is a balanced, poised, savoury wine that carries a load more class than your average Aussie Rosé.

"94 Points. Pale salmon; a spicy, savoury style, with obvious European influences, and length of flavour that is not immediately apparent. Screwcap. 13% alc. Drink 2012 $22 Date Tasted Aug 10"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

"93/ 100. Pale-salmon pink colour and a savoury, barrel-influenced aroma. The taste is light, delicate, restrained, but attractively flavoured with a light acid tang, refreshing the vibrant finish. Dry and lingering aftertaste." - Huon Hooke, Top 50 Wines Wines For Summer, The Sydney Morning Herald, December 7, 2011.

"The Salasso Rosé is made from fruit from 14 year old Shiraz vines. Salasso is Italian for “bleeding the juice” and can be translated to mean Rose. Whole bunch pressed with minimal skin contact. It was then barrel fermented in older oak barrels to dryness using native yeast and bottled early to preserve freshness. A lovely colour, somewhere between pale orange and onion skin. The pale colour signals the wine’s subtlety, with restrained fruit, some complex savoury elements, and a lovely balance all evident on the nose. The wine walks the line between fruit and savoury elements, with juicy summer pudding, apple, blood orange, pesto, and cinnamon notes. It has a richness of palate from barrel fermentation then finishes quite dry and crisp. Will drink best while young."- Notes from Port Phillip Estate.

Customer Reviews

Very nice Review by Janet
My husband and I really enjoyed this wine on a recent visit to Port Phillip Estate. It has lots of flavour without the sweetness I often find in Australian Rose. A lovely wine. (Posted on 8/12/11)
