Port Phillip Estate 'Salasso' Rosé 2011
Port Phillip Estate was established in 1987 on a property of sixty acres in Red Hill in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. The maritime climate and southerly latitude of the Mornington Peninsula combined with the estate's deep red loam soils are considered ideal for cool climate viticulture.

"The Salasso Rosé is made from fruit from 14 year old Shiraz vines. Salasso is Italian for “bleeding the juice” and can be translated to mean Rose. Whole bunch pressed with minimal skin contact. It was then barrel fermented in older oak barrels to dryness using native yeast and bottled early to preserve freshness. A lovely colour, somewhere between pale orange and onion skin. The pale colour signals the wine’s subtlety, with restrained fruit, some complex savoury elements, and a lovely balance all evident on the nose. The wine walks the line between fruit and savoury elements, with juicy summer pudding, apple, blood orange, pesto, and cinnamon notes. It has a richness of palate from barrel fermentation then finishes quite dry and crisp. Will drink best while young."- Notes from Port Phillip Estate.

- Very nice Review by Janet
- My husband and I really enjoyed this wine on a recent visit to Port Phillip Estate. It has lots of flavour without the sweetness I often find in Australian Rose. A lovely wine. (Posted on 8/12/11)
