Like the Longhop Shiraz this wine really impressed us when we recently tasted the 2010 Longhop reds. Once again there is fantastic colour with plenty of primary varietal fruit flavours and some nice dusty tannins in support. This is a beautifully balanced wine that offers lots of joy in drinking now.

"92 Points +++...the accompanying Longhop Cabernet, from similar sources, will become the grander of the two with cellaring: with a few days air, it is already on a par with Supertuscan treasures that will set you back $200-plus per pop, and they'll be burdened with the risky imperfection of cork and just that tad too much sophistication. It's wildly intense, licoricey, syrupy wine with sinblack tannins that suck all the blood clean outta your lips. Both these improve beautifully with an hour of decanter. Stunning value!"- Philip White, April 12 2011.

"92 Points. A friend asked me recently whether it was still possible to find ‘budget’ reds that would cellar well. His thinking was: Can I buy something cheap and turn it into something better by stashing it at the bottom of a cupboard for five years?... I gave a long-winded answer, but I would have been better just opening a bottle of this Longhop Cabernet Sauvignon and saying, Yes. It’s a bargain as a drink-now proposition, but it will cellar well for 4-8 years, if you so desire. Might even go longer than that. It tastes of blackcurrant, dust, eucalypt and toasty vanillin oak. It has enough tannin, but not too much. Enough flavour, without being in any way over-blown. It’s the kind of balanced, well-made, well-flavoured, over-delivering wine that once upon a time put Australia on the map. Rated: 92 Points Alcohol: 14% Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2011 - 2016" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

The Longhop range of wines are produced by Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland. The former school mates first mooted the idea of making icon wines from the Adelaide Plains in 2002. Torzi and Freeland first priority was to secure old vines vineyards something they were able to do by convincing a small band of growers about their vision. These growers embraced this by delivering Torzi and Freeland premium grapes in order to showcase the power and rich fruit flavours of the Adelaide Plains.
