Pondalowie Vineyard Blend Shiraz Cabernet 2012

Pondalowie Vineyard Blend 2012

Bendigo, Victoria   |    750ml   |    14%
Wine Of The Week | 95 Points - James Halliday

Pondalowie Vineyards is dedicated to producing handcrafted premium red wines. Organically farmed grapes are hand-plunged, basket-pressed and barrel matured. The mix of Pondalowie's 'Vineyard Blend' varies each vintage however it consistently delivers a dense, flavoursome and crowd-pleasing Bendigo red.

The newly released 2012 Pondalowie Vineyard Blend is a mix of Shiraz, Cabernet and Tempranillo. The result is a generously flavoured, medium bodied wine with loads of jubey black fruits, wild berries, dried cranberry and fruitcake flavours. Subtle oak and ripe fruit tannin round off this delicious wine that offers super value drinking for under $20.

"Wine Of The Week. 95 Points. A blend of shiraz, cabernet and tempranillo picked at the same time and co-fermented. The vivid purple-crimson colour sets the antennae waving, and not without reason; a totally delicious wine with a sparkling stream of brilliantly flavoured red (dominant) and black fruits, the tannins with a most unusual, but delicious, sheen to their flavour and texture. Outstanding value. Drink by: 2025" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

"Deep red-purple in colour. Lifted aromas of jubey black fruits, plum, blackberry and fruitcake spices are enticing. The medium bodied palate is soft and balanced - a benefit of adding Tempranillo to an otherwise traditional Aussie blend. This easy drinking wine can be enjoyed anytime over the next 5 years but goes particularly well served alongside a simple tomato based pasta with family and friends" - Pondalowie Wines.

Winemaking notes: The varietal proportions in this wine may change from year to year but the concept of producing an aromatically interesting, medium bodied, easy drinking wine remains consistent. The 2012 sees a return to our traditional combination of Shiraz, Cabernet and Tempranillo. The varieties are co-fermented (a technique learned from Dominic’s Portuguese experience) to enhance the marriage of varietal flavours and produce a balanced wine. Drink now and over the next 5 years.
