Moppity Lock & Key Riesling 2011

Hilltops, New South Wales   |    750ml   |    12%
Moppity Vineyards is a flagship producer of the Hilltops region that recently rocketed to prominence, having claimed some of the most coveted prizes in Australian wine making. This 2010 'Lock & Key' Riesling was a big favourite of ours and the newly released 2011 vintage in another outstanding Riesling from Moppity.

"Lock & Key Riesling comes from 30-year-old vines in the cool New South Wales Hilltops region. A wine of delicacy and finesse, it has real backbone, too. Apple, lime, spice and slate aromas lead through a fine, light palate dominated by lots of tingly acidity. Screw cap; 11 per cent alcohol"- Ralph Kyte-Powell.

"If you love classic dry riesling but are on a tight budget, this is a name well worth remembering. From the Moppity vineyard outside Young in New South Wales, it is an absolute bargain at a recommended retail price of around $16 - more so given it can sometimes be found discounted to considerably less. It has lemon zest fragrance, oodles of lime and grapefruit character on the quite austere palate and delightfully zingy racy acidity on the finish. A pristine and appealing partner for oysters, pan-fried seafood or Thai cuisine."- Winsor Dobbin, winsordobbin.com.au.

The Hilltops region of New South Wales is undoubtedly one of Australia's most exciting wine regions, with the likes of Clonakilla, Barwang, Eden Road and Moppity all doing great things. We recently tasted several outstanding releases from Moppity, and whilst this is the entry-level Riesling in the range, this offers some seriously good drinking.

'This is a fresh, dry, fragrant Riesling packed with ripe lime, lemon zest and exotic stonefruit flavours. The palate is long and racy with a clean, zippy finish, making it an excellent food wine. Enjoy it with fresh seafood or white meats.'- Moppity Wines.
