Longview Yakka Shiraz 2009

Adelaide Hills, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%
New vintage of Longview Yakka Shiraz, reviews of the 2008 vintage included below;

"Yakka’s a great name for an Australian red and the Longview winery has steadily forged a good reputation for this wine.
This release is good but it never jumped out as any better than that. There’s nothing wrong with the flavours themselves: it tastes of spearmint, vanilla, cherry-plum and woody spices. It’s medium weight and juicy. But there’s a feeling of lightness to it. It’s a bit clumsy through the finish but it benefits from air - and I’d imagine that another couple of years in the bottle will bring improvements too. Needs to be decanted. Rated: 91+ Points Alcohol: 14.5% Price: $28.95 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2013 - 2018" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

"There are powerful, dark brambly aromas here that show some influence of a heatwave vintage period, but tempered beautifully by cooler southern Hills nights. It's huge, with exotic spices and a fully loaded tannic grip and mouthfeel. So let it air or mature for a few more years and you'll discover all kinds of hidden treats. At the moment, it's a friendly giant of a wine. Value: Good Food: Side of barbecued beef Rating: 4 and a half glasses." - Tony Love, http://www.adelaidenow.com.au.

"Longview Yakka Shiraz is sourced entirely from Longview Vineyard at Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. The fruit was hand-picked to minimise damage, and then fermented on skins for 7 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine was aged in old and new French Barriques. Our 2008 Yakka Shiraz is dark brick red in colour with aromas of red berries, white pepper and baking spices exhibiting flavours of blackcurrant and dark cherry. Toasty oak characters are integrated perfectly with fine balanced tannins and the finish is spicy and long. Excellent to drink now and will benefit from 8-10 years of cellaring." - Longview Wines.
