The 2011 Hewitson Ned and Henrys Shiraz Mouvedre has great balance and poise and carries that signature called 'drinkability'.

"92/100. A friendly, modern Barossa blend. Blackberry, spice, dried herbs and light earthiness mark the nose, and the middleweight palate has good depth, finishing with balanced tannins. (Screw cap; 14 per cent alcohol.) Ageing? Drink over four years. Food ideas Barbecue meats; spring lamb cutlets. Ralph Kyte-Powell, goodfood.com.au.

"Well it’s really good. I like it much better than the 2010 release. Great colour. Licorice, white pepper, meaty, blackberry and boysenberry, floral edges and hedgerow. It’s more to Syrah than Shiraz and shows the best possible face of this vintage. Silky and smooth with a lively acid cut and gentle astringency, fine ripe tannin and a finish of good length. Much to like here and if we talk about ‘light and shade’ of vintage and vineyard sites, then there’s both to be experienced here, though admittedly there’s more light falling on this particular wine than shade. As an exploration of vintage and as a point of difference, I recommend it, though its main draw card is that it’s a bloody good drink. Rated : 91 Points. Drink: 2012 - 2016" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

"A very good friend of mine challenged me to produce a traditional, full-bodied Barossa Valley wine with the only criteria that it could be drunk young at lunch or dinner and did not stray from my fundamental wine making philosophies i.e. French oak, fine grained tannins, balance, clear fruit expression etc! Those who know me well know that I just love a good challenge! Thus Ned & Henry's Barossa Valley was born" - Dean Hewitson.

Hewitson was founded in 1998 by winemaker Dean Hewitson's driving passion to produce uniquely expressive wines from the great vineyards of South Australia's famous wine regions. These regions are the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. They are home to some of Australia's, and indeed the world's, oldest and most treasured vineyards, many of them planted pre-phylloxera and more closely linked to the original vines of Europe than anywhere else in the world.

The 2011 ripening and harvesting was exceptionally cool and more like a European vintage then I have ever experienced in Australia. What I mean by that is I was forced to make picking decisions based on weather knowing that the grapes were not going to get any riper. This is a typical scenario in Europe while almost unheard of in Barossa Valley. Fortunately our Ned & Henry's vineyard sites were harvested before the later rains and once again we are able to deliver a lovely round and fully ripe wine, yielding 14% alcohol. The colour of the 2011 Ned and Henry's is very deep red with a purple hue. The aroma is distinctively Barossa Valley: black and red, ripe fruits and a dried herb spice influence by Mourvèdre.. The fruit flavours of red-fruits, dark cherry and dark-earth characters are full and concentrated yet soft and supple. The tannins are gentle yet persistent. The wine has great balance and poise and carries that signature called 'drinkability'.
