There's no shortage of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc's currently available in Australia, however few have impressed us as much as this offering from Eradus. Eradus is located in the Awarter Valley, a distinct sub-region of Marlborough, that is cooler and more exposed to the sea than the Wairau Valley, with harvest dates up to two weeks later.

The 2013 Eradus Sauvignon Blanc displays a powerful, tightly concentrated and rich nose with a collection of gooseberries, grass, herbs and passionfruit with a steely, minerally edge. Dry in the mouth, the concentrated flavours of gooseberries and passionfruit are driven by slippery and racy acidity.

"18+/ 20. Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has an elegant and well-concentrated and proportioned bouquet with a tightly bound amalgam of passionfruit and gooseberry fruit aromas along with grass and nettle nuances. Wet stone, mineral and lifted floral elements emerge in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is refined and firmly bound with smooth-flowing and seamless flavours of passionfruit intermixed with gooseberries. This has a concentrated core and linearity with subtle sweetness and richness which is enhanced by lively, lacy acidity. The wine has finesse and balance which is carried through to a tight, lingering finish of passionfruit and minerals. This is a tightly bound and refined Sauvignon Blanc with the concentration to develop over the next 2-3 years. Serve as an aperitif, with salads and vegetables and seafood. Boutique, family-owned Marlborough estate Eradus Wines has established itself as one of the shining lights of Marlborough wine.

Har and Sophie Eradus emigrated from Holland to New Zealand in the early '80s and settled in the Marlborough wine region. Today there are twelve hectares of mainly Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir vineyards, the most impressive of which are planted on undulating, stony terraces along the Awatere river valley.

Closer to the ocean than much of the Marlborough wine region, the Awatere’s warm days, cool nights and dry, sunny climate are key to the luminous flavour intensity, elegant minerality and fresh acidities of Eradus’ distinctive wines. The Eradus estate is now run by son Michiel, whose affable, easy-going demeanour belies a fierce perfectionist focused on pushing every boundary in pursuit of quality and balance, the Eradus mantra.
New Zealand
Great grapes make great wines and therefore our vineyard is where we do much of our winemaking. Our vines are located in the Awatere Valley, a Marlborough sub region with its own extreme microclimate. The wines from this region can be described as having lovely mineral backbone, fresh clean crisp and zingy acidity. These characters when combined with riper fruit elements, has the potential to make fantastic wines. Our wine making and viticulture philosophy is based around the concept of ‘balance’ and when this is achieved the results speak for itself.

This has a powerful, tightly concentrated and rich nose with an amalgam of gooseberries, grass, herbs and passionfruit with a steely, minerally edge. Dry to taste, concentrated flavours of gooseberries and passionfruit are driven by slippery and racy acidity. The flavours flow smoothly, the palate integrated and harmonious in mouthfeel. This has excellent clarity and purity of expression, showing detailed nuances of grass and minerals, and the wine has a very long and sustained finish with concentrated gooseberry fruit. Sleek and harmonious, this is a concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with flavour detail and minerality.
