King Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    12%
Victoria's King Valley winemakers are well known for its Italian varietals, and Chrismont continues to be one of the stars of the region. This 'La Zona' Prosecco is one of the better Prosecco style sparkling wines being made in Australia, and offers great drinking at this price.

"It’s grown at about 300 metres above sea level on vines that are now nearly ten years old. It now comes in a proprietary ‘King Valley’ prosecco bottle, which is lovely to see – a real sign of confidence/harmony for the region. Reckon they are bang on with this release. It’s fine and crisp but not at all lacking in flavour. Red apples galore. Some bready complexity. More than an ounce of finesse. More-ish lisp of fruit sweetness. Tick tick tick. Rated: 90 Points Drink: 2011 - 2013" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

"In 2007 Arnie and Jo Pizzini planted the Italian white variety, prosecco, in their vineyard at Cheshunt, in Victoria’s King Valley. With it they emulate the light, delicate dry sparkling wines made with the variety in northeastern Italy. La Zona starts as a still table wine matured on yeast lees for a few months before being blended with components from earlier vintages then undergoing a secondary fermentation in steel tanks. It’s a unique style - pale, comparatively low in alcohol, at 12 per cent, and with a light, delicious, pleasant, intensely tart, dry palate." - Chris Shanahan, http://chrisshanahan.com/

The Chrismont winery and cellar door operations are based in Cheshunt, in addition to estate vineyards located in Cheshunt & Whitfield. The beautiful, undulating property in the heart of the agriculturally rich and diverse King Valley was dedicated initially to tobacco production in the 1960’s. Arnie with his father Arnold transitioned the property to wine grape production in the late 1970’s. Over the almost 30 years since then, the King Valley and Chrismont vineyards have become synonymous with the production of high quality wine grapes for red, white, and sparkling wine. Of particular interest to the region, and indeed Chrismont, are the plantings of traditional Italian varieties in the area.

"Colour: Pale straw-coloured with green hues. Nose: Nose of citrus, melon, green apple, almonds and honey. Palate: The front palate bursts open with dry, delicately flavoured bubbles. A crisp but not overly acid palate supports the bubbles through to the finish. Food: A great aperitivo and is also an ideal accompaniment to seafood particularly oysters, scallops, and crab.. Cellaring: Drink young and fresh. Alc/Vol: 12%" - Chrismont Wines.
