Buy DogRock Shiraz 2011 Grampians Wine
DogRock winery is located in the hills behind the tiny settlement of Crowlands, Western Victoria and is home to winemaker, Allen and Viticulturalist, Andrea Hart.
The winery and vineyards are part of the Pyrenees wine growing region and are nestled onto either side of a horse-shoe valley with individual macroclimates, surrounded by a high ridge to the north and open slopes to the south. Elevation is from 300 to 400 metres above sea level and this provides cool nights, relative frost free springs and sunny dry autumns: perfect for the creation of elegant Shiraz, Tempranillo and Riesling.
The climate is very similar to the Rioja region of Spain and the Southern Rhone Valley of France which produce some of the finest wines in the world. Allen and Andrea's intention is to make innovative and interesting wines that are elegant, have balance and flavour but will still reward some modest time in the cellar.

The fruit for our 2011 DogRock single vineyard Shiraz was hand harvested early April and gently crushed into an open fermenter. A low volume of commercial yeast was used to ferment with the cap plunged twice daily before being basket pressed after 8 days. The cooler season has given a wine rich in pepper and spice and balanced with a hint of sweet French oak. Matured for 18 months prior to bottling in September 2012 the wine can be enjoyed early with tapas and Mediterranean style food but will benefit from time in the cellar.
