Chalkers Crossing Chardonnay

Chalkers Crossing Chardonnay 2013

Tumbarumba, New South Wales   |    750ml   |    13%

95 Points - James Halliday

Chalkers Crossing is one of the flagship wineries of New South Wales, with vineyards located in the Hilltops (around the town of Young in Southern NSW) and Tumbarumba (at the foot of the Snowy Mountains). Under the skilled winemaking of French-born Celine Rousseau, the quality of the Chalkers Crossing wines continues to soar.

This 2013 Chalkers Crossing Tumbarumba Chardonnay displays plenty of stone fruit and mineral flavours on an elegant palate that is fine, long and intense. 100% fermented in French oak (25% new oak barriques) and then matured for 14 months, the oak plays merely a subtle support role to the pristine cool-climate fruit.

"95 Points. Barrel fermentation in French barriques, and then given 12 months on lees; it has wonderfully intense grapefruit and white peach flavours that have absorbed the oak barrel fermentation brings. Has the length common to all top chardonnays, wherever they come from. Drink by: 2020 Date tasted: 31/Jan/2014 Price: $25.00 Alcohol: 13%"- James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Website.

The Chalkers Crossing vineyards are located in the Hilltops and Tumbarumba regions in NSW, Australia.

The Hilltops region is located around the town of Young in Southern NSW and is known for its cool climate conditions. The Tumbarumba region is located at the foot of the Snowy Mountains, one of the most remote wine-growing regions in NSW

Chalkers Crossing commissioned its state-of-the-art winery just north of Young, New South Wales, in March, 2000 - just in time for vintage. The winery has all the modern wine-making equipment necessary to produce the highest possible quality of wine from its grapes.

Winemaker Celine Rousseau was born in France, studied in Paris and trained in Bordeaux. She gained experience in Bordeaux, Champagne, St Emilion and Languedoc in France, and in the Margaret River and Perth Hills in Western Australia before coming to the Hilltops Region in 2000 for the first Chalkers Crossing vintage.

Celine became an Australian citizen in 2002. Celine's skills and experience are evident in the quality of our wines and recognised by the awards they have received.
