"96 Points. Quartz-white; opens demurely, but by the time you begin to think the only thing the wine needs is a few years in the cellar, it starts tapping insistently on your taste buds, the finish building focus and intensity courtesy of lemon and mineral acidity, the aftertaste providing a reprise. Drink by: 2029 Date tasted: 26 Aug 2014 Price: $25.00 Alcohol:12%" - James Halliday, Top 100 Wines 2014.

Named after a prominent nearby landmark, Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup mountains. Angelo and Wendy Diletti first planted vineyards in 1983, releasing the first vintage riesling in 1986.

The vineyard is situated 40km north east of Albany and 30km south east of Mount Barker, on a cool and elevated northerly aspect. This results in well ripened cool climate varieties producing intensely flavoured wines.

"Colour: Pale straw with green hues.

Bouquet: The nose is dominated by citrus characters, of lime juice and lemons. There are some floral lifted notes, orange blossom and a minerally edge, all of which add interest to the aroma.

Palate: There is a wonderful generosity of fruit and richness on the front palate, thanks to perfectly ripened grapes grown in a cool climate. The lime juice palate is succulent and mouth-watering, the rich fruit flavours are framed by the wonderful natural acidity. The acid core is powerful yet wonderfully balanced and gives the wine a mineral structure and great length. The wine is tight and restrained with an attractive delicacy now, yet will blossom with age for at least ten years.

Excellent ageing potential. It will continue to improve through its first year and then plateau, should drink well for at least 10 years."- Castle Rock Wines.
