Ashton Hills Piccadilly Pinot Noir

Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Adelaide Hills, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14%
Ashton Hills Vineyard winemaker Stephen George has long been regarded as an early pioneer of the now well-established viticultural site, the Adelaide Hills. Stephen established his 3ha dry-grown Ashton Hills Vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley in the early 1980s and began producing its first wines in 1987. The style reflects the region’s strong similarity to Burgundy and production levels have stayed true to the boutique nature of the winery’s beginnings.

"..the 2011 Ashton Hills Vineyard Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir (A$35) hails from atypically wet and cold season. With no Reserve pinot noir bottled in that vintage, wine destined for the Estate grade has been bottled under the Piccadilly Valley label. This is a vivacious and attractive young pinot with immediate appeal. Bright strawberry and cherry fruits swirl up fast in the glass, ahead of some raspberry, earth and bracken-like notes, and there is attractive spice. The palate offers bright, light red-fruit flavour on entry. Assertive yet ripe tannins hold juicy cherry flavour neatly in place. The wine looks very complete and approachable."- Nick Stock, Gourmet Traveller Wine, February 2013.

"My Top 20 Producers’ Stephen George is one of the most naturally gifted winemakers in Australia..."-Matthew Jukes, Decanter, April 2010.
